3sun Group elects subsea division general manager

3sun Group, a provider of products and services to the global energy industry, has appointed James Smith as general manager for its subsea division, RRC Controls Services.

Smith joins 3sun Group after a 16 year career with Aker Subsea Limited, where he progressed from a service team workshop manager to global infrastructure and equipment manager. The company says that spending time in Malaysia, Brazil and Norway, he was responsible for several expansion projects and is highly skilled in project management, strategic planning and initiating process change.

In the newly-created position, Smith will play an integral part in the growth strategy of RRC, which has recently undergone expansion following a significant investment.

Commenting on his appointment, James Smith, said: “I am delighted to have joined the team at RRC Controls Services. I have spent most of my career in the oil and gas industry and believe my experience of driving global projects will allow me to help deliver the company’s strategic objectives for long-term growth.”

Based in Gourdon, Aberdeenshire, the RRC Controls Services division was acquired in 2013 and enhances 3sun Group’s service offering to the subsea market.

3sun Group’s regional director, Neil Tawse, said: “James’ impressive international experience and extensive technical knowledge within the energy sector will be invaluable in his new role. As we expand and develop our subsea offering, it is vital that we ensure our systems remain efficient and cost effective, whilst simultaneously maintaining stakeholder relationships at all levels.

“We must continue to provide the highest quality of service to our customers and I am confident that James’ range of skills will ensure he plays a significant role in strengthening the RRC division moving forward.”

Manufacturing control systems for the offshore oil and gas industry, the division provides a complete range of subsea and topsides equipment, including all mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and software components.
