Aibel to build subsea elements for Oda project

Norwegian oil and gas services company Aibel is to supply a subsea manifold and structure for an integrated foundation to TechnipFMC for the Oda project offshore Norway.

According to the Norway-based company, work starts immediately and will continue until the second half of 2018.

During this time Aibel will build and deliver several subsea structural elements, including a subsea manifold. At its most, the project will involve up to 50 employees at the Haugesund yard, the company stated.

“This contract cements our position as supplier to the subsea market. Along with several other ongoing projects, it will ensure plenty of work at the yard in the time ahead. We’re looking forward to starting work,” says EVP Modifications and Yard Services, Bjørn Tollefsen.

In the summer of 2016, Aibel entered into a four-year agreement with TechnipFMC for fabrication services and today’s award is a call-off on this contract and will be delivered in connection with Technip FMC’s involvement in the Oda project.

Centrica is the end-client and operator for the Oda development project in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. The operator submitted the plan for the Development and Operation (PDO) of the Oda field to the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy in November 2016.

The proposed development will include a 4-slot seabed template with two production wells, and one water injection well, which will tie back to the Ula platform. Oil will be transported via the Norpipe system to the Teesside Terminal in the UK, while the gas will be sold at the platform to Ula for re-injection into the Ula reservoir to improve recovery. The poduction start-up is planned for 2019.
