Anadarko Petroleum, independent U.S.-based oil firm will drill its first of planned two offshore wells in Kenya this December, Reuters reports, citing Patrick Nyoike, Kenya’s permanent secretary of energy.
The company has been successful in oil and gas exploration offshore East Africa so far. Anadarko in July announced it had discovered more than 300 net feet (92 meters) of natural gas pay at its Atum well, offshore Mozambique.
According to Reuters, this time the company will aim for oil while drilling the Kiboko and Kubwa wells located in blocks L11B and L7 respectively. The news agency further says that Anadarko will spend a total of $280 million on these offshore wells.
