Apache Evacuates 750 Workers Ahead of Tropical Storm Isaac (USA)

Apache Corporation reported that as a precautionary measure the company has ordered  evacuations and some production shut-ins at its operations in the eastern Gulf of Mexico.

In all, about 750 employees and contractors have been evacuated from the company’s facilities in the eastern Gulf.

The company yesterday informed that operated production totaling about 24,000 barrels of oil per day and 91 million cubic feet of gas per day was or would be curtailed by day’s end in anticipation of the possible approach of Tropical Storm Isaac.

According to the latest information provided by the National Weather Service Tropical Storm Isaac is beginning to enter the southeastern Gulf of Mexico, with maximum sustained near 65 mph. A gradual turn toward the northwest with a decrease in forward speed along with some strengthening is expected over the next 48 hours. Isaac is expected to approach the northern Gulf Coast on Tuesday. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the northern Gulf Coast, including New Orleans.

The storm killed at least 6 people after hitting Haiti on Sunday, according to news reports,. Another five people have been reported missing.
