Barakah to overhaul Murphy’s Kikeh spar

Malaysia’s Barakah Offshore Petroleum has been awarded a contract with Murphy Oil to service the company’s Kikeh spar platform, offshore Malaysia.

Barakah’s wholly-owned subsidiary company PBJV received a letter of award from Murphy Sabah Oil and Murphy Sarawak Oil for the provision of production riser tensioner overhaul, maintenance, and upgrade for Murphy’s production operations.

The contract value is around RM20.0 million ($4.5M) for a duration of two years with an option for extension of one year. The contract is expected to start in December 2016.

The company will work on Murphy’s Kikeh field, which is Malaysia’s first deepwater field. It has been in production since 2007. The Kikeh area is located 120 km northwest of the island of Labuan, offshore Sabah, East Malaysia and lies in water depths of approximately 1,300 m.

The Kikeh development consists of a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel which receives production from wells drilled from a spar dry tree unit. The spar has twenty-four slots.

According to Barakah, Kikeh production and drilling riser tensioner system is a critical component of single point anchor reservoir/dry tree unit (SPAR/DTU).

The production and drilling riser tensioner system is vital in maintaining the stability of SPAR and wellhead riser, the company added. The contract involves the overhaul of Kikeh DTU to like new condition, and the modification and improvement of production and drilling riser tensioner to extend the service life.
