Bureau Veritas wins Leviathan work from Noble Energy

Bureau Veritas (BV), a provider of testing, inspection, and certification services, has been awarded a contract by Noble Energy for independent verification of development executions on the Leviathan project, offshore Israel.

BV said on Monday that it would provide an independent assessment of compliance with project requirements.

The verification provided by Bureau Veritas will be focused on the review and verification of design, engineering, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of the safety-critical elements (SCE) of the project.

Leviathan’s initial development will include four subsea wells, each capable of flowing more than 300 million cubic feet per day (MMcfd) of natural gas. Production will be gathered at the field and delivered via two 73-mile flowlines to a fixed platform, with full processing capabilities, located approximately six miles offshore.

The Leviathan platform will have an initial deck weight of 22,000 tons. Processed gas will connect to the Israel Natural Gas Lines Ltd. onshore transportation grid in the northern part of the country and to regional markets via onshore export pipelines. The approved development plan allows for future expansion from its initial 1.2 billion cubic feet per day (Bcfd) capacity to 2.1 Bcfd.

Paul Shrieve, BV Regional CEO of North Sea Offshore Operations, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed by Noble Energy to support them with an independent compliance assessment of their recent project. We look forward to working alongside their expert team.”

The Leviathan operator has already held a first steel cutting ceremony for the project. Wood Group is in charge of detailed engineering work on the platform, including the topsides and the jacket.
