Caterpillar Generators to Power Jack-Up and Tender Barge Newbuild by COSCO

Caterpillar Global Petroleum announced today that the Cat® 3516C (HD) and 3512B generator sets have been selected to power a jack-up and a tender barge newbuild for COSCO Shipyard Group in China.

Six Cat 3516C (HD) generator sets, each with rated power of 1603 bkw @ 1200 rpm, will be used as the prime power for the COSCO tender barge while 5x 3516C (HD) generator sets will be installed on the jack-up rig. Each newbuild will also utilize 1x Cat 3512B generator set with a power rating of 1102 bkw @ 1200 rpm for emergency power. The projects are currently under construction at COSCO shipyards in China and the units will be delivered in 2013.

Both newbuilds are among the many offshore projects that have been secured by Caterpillar Global Petroleum in China. Since 2011, Cat 3516C (HD) has been the power solution of choice for both jack-up and tender rigs at leading China shipyards including COSCO Shipyard Group, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, CIMC Raffles and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard.

“Caterpillar Global Petroleum is a proven provider of reliable power solutions for the offshore drilling market in China,” Wilton Shen, Caterpillar Global Petroleum Asia Pacific China sales manager noted. “Together with our Cat China dealer, Lei Shing Hong Machinery (LSHM), we have developed a strong partnership with the COSCO Shipyard Group and are proud to serve them as our customer.”

Manufactured in Lafayette, Indiana, the Cat 3500 diesel generator sets have been installed on countless offshore applications around the world en route to becoming the industry standard for prime power. With proven performance in the offshore drilling sector, the 3516C series features market-leading power density, a long overhaul life and the ADEM™ A3 and meet IMO II emissions regulations.
