Caterpillar Oil & Gas will introduce a new platform to the Cat® C175-16 offshore generator set at 2014 OTC Houston exhibition.
This new platform offers a 50 Hz power rating for offshore drilling and production applications. The Cat C175-16 offshore generator set has become the preferred power source for jackup newbuilds since its introduction to the market two years ago. The existing Cat C175-16 model is available with 1833 ekW @ 60 Hz (1200 rpm) of rated power and the new Cat C175-16 offshore generator set offers 2300 ekW @ 50 hz (1500 rpm) of rated power. The new offering is ideal for providing main, emergency and essential services power on drilling and production rigs, platforms and vessels. A cutaway of the C175 will be on display at the Caterpillar booth #3341 at the OTC Houston exhibition May 5-8th in Houston, Texas.

The Cat C175-16 offshore generator set is an innovative solution for customers seeking high power density, unmatched reliability, and simple operation offshore. The MCS type-approved, 50 Hz C175 offers 25 degree tilt capability, an integral feature for solutions providing emergency power on semisubmersible rigs. Its high power density also provides customers a significant weight advantage when compared to medium speed engines.
Driven by two ADEM™ A4 engine control modules, the IMO Tier II compliant C175-16 engine features full redundancy and provides superior performance, engine protection, and low emission operation. The ADEM A4 control system together with the Cat Alarm and Protection System provide offshore customers with best-in-class performance, safety, reliability, and a simplified operator interface that includes remote monitoring and control.
The C175-16 is also highly fuel efficient, incorporating a high pressure common rail fuel system that delivers multiple precise fuel injections within a single combustion event. This results in lower emissions, noise, improved performance and reduced fuel consumption. More importantly, the fuel system technology directly impacts customers’ bottom line by reducing owning and operating costs.
