Centrica swings job axe in Aberdeen

UK energy company Centrica has reduced its Aberdeen exploration and production division workforce by 25 employees.

The company’s spokesman told Offshore Energy Today on Wednesday that the reduction of the Aberdeen team meant it the now employs just over 310 people.

“After a full consultation with our people, we have taken the difficult but necessary decision to reduce the number of roles in our exploration and production team.

“We want to maximize the potential of the North Sea and Morecambe Bay assets, and over several months have been working hard to find new ways of operating and finalizing the structure of our business to make that happen.

“We recognize that this represents difficult news for our employees who may be affected. Our priority now is to support all those impacted,” the spokesperson said.

In Centrica’s trading update from December, the company said that it saw benefits from its cost efficiency program and that the company ‘performed very well in extremely difficult circumstances.’

To remind, in April 2016, Centrica said that it would be reducing its workforce by 3,000 people by the end of the year as part of its cost-cutting initiative. At the time, the company did not say which parts of the company would be affected by the cuts.
