China’s Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC) has hired Keppel O&M subsidiary Keppel FloaTEC for the provision of engineering services in support of the construction of the Lingshui 17-2 production semi-submersible unit. The offshore facility will be built in China.
Keppel FloaTEC said on Thursday the Lingshui 17-2 would be the world’s first deep-water semi-submersible production floater with condensate storage facilities. The Lingshui development is also China’s first wholly-owned and – operated deepwater gas project.
The Keppel FloaTEC scope of work includes the review and the independent design verification for the Lingshui 17-2 production hull, mooring, riser, and deck structure.
T K Das, President of Keppel FloaTEC said, “We are pleased that COOEC has selected Keppel FloaTEC to undertake the independent third-party review of this semi design. It is a testament to our reputation and track record as a leading design and engineering company in floating production systems. We look forward to contributing to the success of this project and leveraging our capabilities in deep-water products to support the industry.”
Lingshui 17-2 lies in about 1,500 meters of water around 150 kilometers south of Hainan Province in South China Sea. The development plan includes placing a semi-submersible production platform with condensate storage and subsea production system. When completed, the field will produce about 3 billion to 3.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
Construction works on the project valued almost $3 billion started in November 2018. The platform is expected to start producing in 2020.
As reported earlier, Norway’s Aker Solutions in October 2018 won a $205 million order to provide the subsea production system and umbilicals for the Lingshui 17-2 gas field.
