EMGS signs survey deal with BP for work offshore Senegal and Mauritania

Oil and gas major BP has awarded a CSEM survey contract for work in Senegal and Mauritania to the Norwegian company EMGS.

EMGS said Friday that the contract BP was worth around $6 million. The survey work is expected to start in the first quarter of 2020.

CEO of EMGS, Bjørn Petter Lindhom comments: “EMGS is delighted to return to Africa and for the opportunity to work for BP and partners on their high-profile acreage in Mauritania and Senegal. This contract extends our already healthy backlog and puts us in a good position to secure additional work in the prolific MSGBC Basin and in West Africa.”

While EMGS did not say which project BP was hiring the company for, the contract is most likely related to BP’s Tortue Ahmeyim project as the location disclosed by EMGS fits the description.

The Final Investment Decision for the cross-border development located offshore Mauritania and Senegal, was made in December 2018.

The Tortue/Ahmeyim field development is located in the C-8 block off the shore of Mauritania and the Saint-Louis Profond block offshore Senegal.

The Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project will produce gas from an ultra-deepwater subsea system and mid-water floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, which will process the gas, removing heavier hydrocarbon components. The gas will then be transferred to a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility at an innovative nearshore hub located on the Mauritania and Senegal maritime border.

The FLNG facility is designed to provide circa 2.5 million tonnes of LNG per annum on average, with the total gas resources in the field estimated to be around 15 trillion cubic feet. The project, the first major gas project to reach FID in the basin, is planned to provide LNG for global export as well as making gas available for domestic use in both Mauritania and Senegal.
