Fire shuts Deep Panuke production offshore Nova Scotia

Production from the Deep Panuke platform, offshore Nova Scotia, Canada, has been shut after a fire outbreak.

According to The Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board, a small transformer fire broke out within a contained room on the Deep Panuke production platform.

Reportedly, the fire was successfully extinguished by the fire suppression system. The Board said it was informed of the incident on Sunday, August 3.

There was no reported harm to personnel or the environment in relation to this incident. The cause of the incident is under investigation. Production from the platform is currently shut-in.‎

The Deep Panuke project produces and processes natural gas from the Deep Panuke field, approximately 250 kilometres (155 miles) southeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia on the Scotian Shelf.

Natural gas from Deep Panuke is processed offshore and transported, via subsea pipeline, to Goldboro, Nova Scotia where it interconnects with the Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline.

A similar incident happened on the platform in January 2013, when a small fire was contained within an electrical cabinet in the Emergency Switchboard Room (ESR) on the Deep Panuke platform.
