Former Ophir chairman to join Polarcus board

The Nomination Committee of seismic acquisition company Polarcus has proposed Nicholas Smith to be appointed as a new member of the company’s board of directors.

Polarcus said on Monday that the proposal made by the Committee, consisting of Kitty Hall, Karen El-Tawil, and Kristian Falnes, would be considered at the next Extraordinary General Meeting on March 6, 2017.

Nicholas Smith should replace Chris Kelsall who resigned from the board of directors in January.

According to Polarcus, Smith is a chartered accountant with a long-term career in investment banking and as CFO of Asian investment bank Jardine Fleming Group.

He has had a non-executive track record in the public E&P sector and investment trusts, including seven years as Chairman of Ophir Energy, and as a board member for several other AIM listed companies.

Smith is currently the Chairman of Aberdeen New Thai Investment Trust and Chairman of Schroder Asia Pacific Investment Fund, where he was previously Chair of Audit and Senior Independent Director.

He is also a board member for JPMorgan European Small Companies Investment Trust PLC where he is also the Chair of Audits.
