Norway’s seismic vessel fleet owner Shearwater GeoServices has named a new chair of the company’s board of directors.
Shearwater said on Wednesday that it had named industry veteran Robert Hobbs as the new chairman of the company.
He replaces Karl-Johan Gombrii who has been in the chairman role since Shearwater’s inception in 2016. According to the company, Hobbs will start work in his new role from November 6, 2019.
Hobbs has 30 years of experience from the oil and gas sector. He served as the CEO of TGS-NOPEC, an international multi-client seismic company until 2016.
Regarding his appointment, Robert Hobbs said: “Shearwater was created with the clear ambition of becoming a leading marine seismic acquisition company. The company has successfully executed on this strategy through strong leadership by Irene and her team, and the support of committed owners and dedicated employees.
“I am honored to serve as chair of the board in Shearwater where I will leverage my industry knowledge, and I look forward to challenging and supporting management as the company develops its industry-leading position.”
Irene Waage Basili, CEO of Shearwater, added: “Robert brings with him a unique combination of management and industry experience. He will be highly valuable to Shearwater as we transit from acquisition and integration mode to fully focus on operations and delivering the best possible service to our customers and value creation for all our stakeholders.
“On behalf of the whole of Shearwater and myself, I would also like to extend our gratitude to Karl-Johan, for his strong support and valued counsel during our very active and successful first years as a company.”
