Four new directors for Decom North Sea

Decom North Sea (DNS), the offshore oil and gas decommissioning forum, held its Annual General Meeting last night in St Andrews, Scotland, with four new directors elected and two directors re-elected from across all sectors of the decommissioning industry.

Attendees were appraised of Decom North Sea activity over the past year and given an update on progress against the various strategic objectives.

Nigel Jenkins, Decom North Sea’s chief executive, said: “The strategic importance of decommissioning in the North Sea could not be greater than it is right now and I am delighted by the election of these experienced industry professionals, who bring an extensive portfolio of skills and invaluable breadth of knowledge to support DNS.  With their help, we will continue to play a vital role in the decommissioning of oil and gas assets and achieve our objective of reducing decommissioning costs thus creating a centre of excellence for the industry.”

New directors have been named as Torleif Gram, Tim Eley, Paul Caruana and Stuart Wordsworth, whilst those who have been re-elected as directors to the board are Ian Whitehead and Murdo MacIver.

In the wake of Decom North Sea’s AGM, the body is jointly hosting a major decommissioning industry conference today and tomorrow (October 8 and 9), with Oil & Gas UK. The Annual Decommissioning Conference is entitled “Delivering the Future Together” and is sponsored by EY.

With annual expenditure for North Sea decommissioning projects forecast to top £1 billion in the coming years, the event will focus on collaboration, the promotion of sector knowledge share and best practices among operators and supply chain members.

The flagship conference will be chaired jointly by Nigel Jenkins, Decom North Sea’s chief executive, and Mick Borwell, Oil & Gas UK’s environment director.  Joining them will be a keynote speaker, Gordon Ballard, Vice President Industry Affairs & Chairman, Schlumberger UK Ltd.

DNS says that a line-up of industry experts will also be sharing their knowledge of decommissioning, whilst delegates will have the opportunity to engage in a range of interactive discussions between operators and contractors.

The annual event follows on from four previous sell-out conferences, with 300 delegates from the across the UK, Dubai, Norway, The Netherlands, Switzerland, and the USA attending this year’s conference.
