Oil services company Aibel has been awarded a contract for yardstay and assistance with the final preparations of BP’s floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel Glen Lyon.

After some delay in the arrival, the vessel was initially planned to arrive during last weekend, Aibel said that the FPSO Glen Lyon would arrive at the company’s yard in Haugesund in Western Norway today, April 20.

According to data on Marine Traffic, the FPSO is just outside Haugesund. In an e-mail to Offshore Energy Today, Aibel’s spokesperson said the vessel would arrive in Haugesund this afternoon.

With a length of 270 metres and a width of 52 metres, Glen Lyon will become the largest FPSO ever to dock at Aibel Haugesund. The vessel is expected to stay in Haugesund for about two months.

According to the company, during its stay a considerable amount of yard employees will be engaged with the assignment. The work has been prepared since the summer of 2015, Aibel added.

The stay in Haugesund will be the FPSO’s final stop on its journey towards the Schiehallion field. Aibel will assist BP with Glen Lyon’s final preparations. The assignment includes e.g. various marine operations and fabrication activities. Aibel will also assist BP with a function test of a mechanical winch, and will be making yard facilities and services available.

“We are really looking forward to welcoming Glen Lyon to Haugesund. The FPSO will arrive at the same time as we are stepping up the activity in the Johan Sverdrup project. The scene is set for an exciting spring with a high activity level at the yard,” says EVP Yard Haugesund, Bjørn Tollefsen.
