GC Rieber said on Wednesday that it had entered into a ship management agreement with a Norwegian subsidiary of Nexans for the cable layer Nexans Skagerrak.

The company added that the agreement also included management of Nexans’ cable laying vessel Nexans Aurora once it is delivered from Ulstein yard in 2021. First steel for the Nexans Aurora was cut in February this year.

The agreement is expected to be executed in the third quarter of 2019 and handover of the vessel is set to take place in September 2019.

The addition of these two vessels grows Rieber’s fleet of specialized vessels managed on behalf of third-party owners from six to eight.

Apart from the ship management agreement, Rieber and Nexans agreed to an extension of an ongoing charter of the Polar King CSV by up to two months.

The vessel has been with Nexans since January 2017 and was originally set to end its charter in August. The deal for the vessel will now end in mid-October.

GC Rieber Shipping CCO, Christoffer Knudsen, said: “We are proud that we […] have been selected as the ship management provider for Nexans Norway’s highly advanced cable laying vessels. We look forward to developing our partnership and servicing Nexans in the coming years.”
