Giant Gudrun Module Completed in Thailand

Aibel yesterday celebrated the completion of the giant 6,000 tonne Gudrun module after a year and a half of intense activity and heavy lifting.

The Gudrun modules that have been built in Thailand, are complete and ready for the journey to Haugesund. Gudrun is the largest module that has ever been built at the yard in Laem Chabang, as well as being the largest object ever transported in Thailand.

“I want to thank everyone who contributed to a good project in Thailand. This is an important project that demonstrates how well Aibel can collaborate across many parts of the organisation,” says Jan Skogseth, CEO of Aibel AS.

“We are demonstrating that we have the competence and experience to carry out very large projects. The Gudrun modules are now on there way to Haugesund to be assembled there. We still have a big job ahead of us,” says Skogseth.

Gudrun is expected to reach Norway in approximately one month.

The Gudrun field is located approx. 50 kilometres north of the Sleipner Øst and Sleipner Vest fields offshore Norway. Water depth is about 110 metres. Gudrun will be developed with a facility with a steel jacket and first stage processing. It will be connected to Sleipner A through two pipelines; one for oil and one for rich gas.

Gudrun is a high pressure and high temperature field. Production from this field is scheduled for start-up in 2014.
