API Spec Q2 is a risk-based quality management system that certifies oil and gas equipment manufacturers for the safety, consistency and interchangeability of their products. It focuses heavily on defect prevention, waste reduction and reliability of services. Q2 was first published in December 2011, and certification is now being offered.

Halliburton has been a strong and active supporter of Spec Q2. In addition to helping develop the standard, Halliburton hosted two beta audits, was the first company to go through a stage 1 audit in the Gulf of Mexico and Indonesia, and was the first to apply for certification of multiple facilities worldwide.

Jeff Miller, Halliburton’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, accepted the honor on behalf of the company. “Halliburton is proud to be a partner with API in the development of the Q2 standard. The adoption of this standard will positively impact process safety within our industry,” he said.

Founded in 1919, Halliburton is one of the world’s largest providers of products and services to the energy industry. With more than 75,000 employees, representing 140 nationalities in approximately 80 countries, the company serves the upstream oil and gas industry throughout the lifecycle of the reservoir – from locating hydrocarbons and managing geological data, to drilling and formation evaluation, well construction and completion, and optimizing production through the life of the field.
