Heerema Marine Contractors CEO leaves after 26 years with company

The chief executive officer of Dutch company Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) is leaving the company after an eight-year run as CEO.

HMC said on Tuesday that Jan-Pieter Klaver decided to step down after being the CEO of HMC for eight years and after over 26 years of working for Heerema.

The company added that Klaver stepped down to pursue other personal and business interests.

In consultation with the board, HMC decided that the time between this decision and his actual departure should not be too long and therefore agreed that Klaver would leave the company on June 1, which will allow for an adequate transfer of his responsibilities.

He held many positions throughout his time at the company. He worked at Heerema’s former Norway yard and did business development at Dockwise, the heavy marine transport company that Heerema owned until 2006. Klaver later switched to Heerema Fabrication Group where he ran the Vlissingen yard, became HFG’s Chief Operational Officer in 2003 and was appointed CEO two years later. In 2009, he joined HMC, first as COO and eventually as CEO.

On the same date, Saskia Rijtema will join the board as the new chief operating officer (COO).

She started her career at Heerema Marine Contractors in October 1997 and has worked in various departments and been involved in projects all around the world.

In May 2014, she took on the responsibility as VP of Technology. In January 2016, Rijtema was appointed the Senior VP of Technology and Innovation, responsible for all engineering for projects, tenders, and assets worldwide as well as HMC’s innovation agenda.
