Hycom supplies hydraulic power unit for Heerema’s Sleipnir SSCV

Hydraulic systems specialist Hycom has finalized construction work on its latest overseas equipment order placed by Jurong Shipyard, Singapore, for Heerema’s semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV) Sleipnir.

The company said on Friday that the order entailed a Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) and control system for Sleipnir, which is currently under construction in Singapore.

Hycom’s HPU comprises several components, including ten Hydac axial plungers and vane pumps powered by water-cooled electric motors with a 58.5-meter footprint.

The installed power is just under 5,0 Mw with an overall output flow of 5,600 L/min at 350 bars. Several smaller electric motors for pumping pilot and heating oil are also included in the order, along with water coolers and storage tanks.

According to Hycom, the HPU is expected to arrive in Singapore in December.

To remind, Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine, through its wholly owned subsidiary Jurong Shipyard, secured a $1 billion engineering and construction deal with Heerema Offshore Services to build the DP3 SSCV back in July 2015.

Once constructed, the Sleipnir will become world’s largest crane vessel, at 220 meters long and 102 meters wide. The SSCV’s two cranes, to be used for offshore construction and heavy lifting, will each have a lifting capacity of 10,000 tons and will be used for offshore construction and heavy lifting.

The vessel is scheduled to be delivered from the yard in the second half of 2018.
