Icon Offshore boss to step away from O&G industry

The managing director of Malaysian offshore support vessel provider Icon Offshore has decided to leave his position in the company to take a role at Themed Attractions Resorts & Hotels.

Icon Offshore said on Friday that Amir Hamzah Bin Azizan would leave his managing director position on November 30.

He was appointed the managing director of the company on June 1, 2016. Azizan has 27 years of industry and international experience and extensive knowledge in the oil and gas industry and marine logistics sector.

He started his career with Shell serving in various capacities. In 2000, he joined MISC Berhad where he became president and CEO on January 1, 2009, and served until June 14, 2010.

After that, he became the MD and CEO of Petronas Dagangan Berhad from June 2010 until August 2012 when he became the Group MD and CEO of Petronas Lubricants International. In July 2013, Azizan became the VP of lubricants for Petroliam Nasional Berhad.

Chairman of Icon Offshore, Raja Tan Sri Data’ Seri Arshad Raja Tun Uda, said: “He [Azizan] has led Icon through the low oil prices environment and implemented proactive measures that have safeguarded the company’s position in this challenging times.

“On behalf of the board and management, we would like to thank him for his service in leading Icon and wish him every success in his future endeavors.”

The departing managing director said: “I would like to express my gratitude to the board of directors, management, and the entire team at Icon for their commitment and support during my time there. The invaluable experience I gained at Icon will serve me well beyond the oil and gas sector, into my next role at Themed Attractions Resorts & Hotels.”

Icon added that the company would be searching for a new managing director over the next few months. During this transition period, Hassan Ali, Icon’s current chief operating officer (COO), will lead the company as the acting MD.

“We also welcome the appointment of Captain Hassan Ali as acting MD. He will be supported by a solid and experienced senior team with a combined experience of more than 100 years collectively in the oil and gas industry,” added Raja Tan Sri Arshad.
