KCA Deutag ‘delighted’ with Statoil drilling deal

KCA Deutag 'delighted' with Statoil deal

Following reports today that Statoil has extended a drilling services contract with KCA Deutag, the international drilling and engineering contractor has issued a separate statement, confirming the deal.

KCA Deutag has said it has retained the drilling contract for seven of Statoil’s platforms on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

The contract is for the provision of drilling operations, maintenance services and engineering support for the Gullfaks and Oseberg fields (Oseberg B, C, South, East – Gullfaks A, B, C).

This extension from the original contract period will start on October 1, 2016 and will run to October 2018 with an additional option to extend by two further periods of two years each. The contract extension is worth up to NOK 2 billion ($243.1 million).

Rune Lorentzen, KCA Deutag President of Offshore and RDS said: “Today’s contract award extends a long standing relationship with Statoil in Norway. We are delighted that the quality of our operational performance and the value that KCA Deutag can bring as a premium drilling contractor has been recognised. We look forward to continuing to improve our performance as we move forward.”

This is not the first time this month that the Statoil-KCA Deutag cooperation has been in the spotlight. Namely, in the second week of March, a KCA Deutag spokesperson confirmed to Offshore Energy Today that the company would be employing three hundred offshore workers in support of its contract with Statoil for work on new Cat J jack-up rigs.

The contract for the management, operation and maintenance of two Category J jack-up rigs which will start operating on the Norwegian Continental Shelf next year was awarded to KCA Deutag back in 2013.
