KrisEnergy COO takes on chief executive role

KrisEnergy, an oil and gas company focused on operations in Southeast Asia, has promoted its chief operating officer and president of the company’s Cambodian ops to the chief executive officer role.

KrisEnergy said on Thursday that the company appointed Kelvin Tang to the position of CEO. The COO and president of the company’s Cambodian entity will take over as CEO on September 1, 2017.

The company added that Jeffrey S. MacDonald resigned from the interim CEO and board executive director positions effective August 31.

Tan Ek Kia, KrisEnergy’s non-executive chairman, said: “The board of directors welcomes Kelvin in his new role. Kelvin has been an instrumental member of senior management since KrisEnergy was established in 2009 and led our negotiations with the Cambodian government regarding the Block A petroleum agreement, which was signed on August 23, 2017.

“The board would like to thank Jeff for his contribution as interim CEO since July 2016 and as a director on the KrisEnergy board since establishment. We wish him success in his future endeavors.”

Regarding his promotion, Tang said: “I would like to thank the KrisEnergy board for giving me this opportunity. There remain many challenges ahead, and I will be working closely with my colleagues and the board to execute our development plans and to create value for all stakeholders.”

Tang has been working in the upstream oil and gas industry since 2005 when he joined Pearl Energy Ltd. as general counsel and company secretary.

He joined KrisEnergy in 2009 and was responsible for the legal and regulatory functions of the company and later took on the additional role of president of the company’s activities in Cambodia. Tang was named KrisEnergy’s COO in March following the financial restructuring of the company.

As the head of KrisEnergy’s Cambodian ops, Tang has earlier this week signed with the government of Cambodia fiscal and technical agreements for the country’s first oil field development in Cambodia Block A in the Gulf of Thailand.
