Lake Pontchartrain platform explosion: Body of missing oil worker recovered

The body of a worker who went missing in last week’s explosion of an oil platform in Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana, has been recovered.

This is according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff Lopinto who on Friday said the body of the 44-year-old Timothy Morrison of Katy, Texas, had been found on the Lake Pontchartrain shoreline.

Morrison went missing following an explosion and fire on the Clovelly operated oil and gas platform located in Lake Pontchartrain.

Seven workers were injured in the accident which occurred while Hydra Steam Generator, Inc., a Houston, Texas subcontractor working on the platform, was cleaning the the platform’s pipes.

“At some time during this process, for reasons unknown at this time, an explosion occurred which resulted in a large fire on the top tier of the platform. An investigation into what caused the explosion and fire is currently underway,” the Jefferson Parish authorities said last week.

Commenting on the recovery of the body of the missing worker, Clovelly Oil Co. LLC said: “There are no words to adequately express the grief that all of us at Clovelly feel. We extend our deepest condolences to the Morrison family.

“We also want to thank the JPSO (Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office) and all other agencies that participated in the search for their diligence in making the recovery and helping to provide some measure of closure in this tragic situation.”
