Liebherr to supply two cranes for Libra FPSO

Austria’s Liebherr-Werk Nenzing G.m.b.H will construct and deliver two offshore cranes for an FPSO vessel to be deployed offshore Brazil.

The company has received the order from the Singapore-based Jurong Shipyard, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Marine, who is building the FPSO. The FPSO will be deployed at the Petrobras-operated Libra field, in the Santos Basin.

“This contract confirms our capabilities in the offshore oil and gas industry,” says Johannes Malin, Area Manager of Liebherr-Werk Nenzing G.m.b.H.

Jurong Shipyard is building the floating production unit for a joint venture between Brazil’s Odebrecht Oil & Gas and Teekay Offshore. This joint venture company will own and operate the FPSO, chartering it to Petrobras for 12 years, excluding options.

“We are very excited about this opportunity to work with Jurong Shipyard and of course, OOGTK Libra GmbH & Co KG, a joint venture between Brazil’s Odebrecht Oil & Gas and Teekay Offshore on this very important project,” adds Malin.

According to Liebherr’s press release, the cranes for the FPSO are of the type BOS 2600-35 EX LIT.

The Austrian contractor and offshore cranes provider to the oil and gas industry says its scope of supply includes design, manufacturing and delivery of the cranes. Liebherr Singapore Pte Ltd will supervise assembling and commissioning during integration of the cranes onto the FPSO at Jurong Shipyard.

The Austrian company has added that the project was underway in Liebherr-Werk Nenzing G.m.b.H. and crane fabrication would be done at Liebherr MCCtec Rostock G.m.b.H in Germany in time for integration of the cranes onto the FPSO in 1Q 2016.

The Libra oil field is an ultra-deepwater (up to 8,202 feet or 2,500 meters) oil prospect located in the Santos Basin, about 143 miles (230 kilometers) off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, north of the Lula oil field (formerly known as Tupi). The oil field estimated to contain recoverable resources ranging between 8 billion to 12 billion barrels of oil and is one of the largest deep-water oil accumulations.
