Lukoil makes step forward with Caspian oil project

Russian oil company Lukoil has moved a step forward in the development of its Caspian Sea oil project.

Namely, Russia’s largest privately held oil company has started driving in marine risers into Vladimir Filanovsky offshore oil field, located 50 kilometers offshore, in the Russian section of the Caspian Sea.

In an update on Friday, Lukoil said that the marine risers installation precedes drilling of development wells in the field.

Lukoil said the risers would reinforce wellheads and ensure environmental safety and circulation at drilling operations. The risers will be driven down to the sea bottom at a depth of 120 meters.

According to the statement, Lukoil will drive in 13 risers, to service an equal number of wells to be drilled.

The V. Filanovsky field was discovered in 2005, in the northern section of the Caspian Sea. In its annual report earlier this month, Lukoil said that the commissioning of the V. Filanovsky field would be among the key project developments in 2016.

Once completed, the field’s installations will consists of fixed platforms and living quarter modules linked by bridges. Lukoil said production from the field would begin in 2016, and the company expects peak production will reach 120.000 barrels per day.
