Lundin gets drilling permit for appraisal well in North Sea

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Lundin Norway a drilling permit for an appraisal well located offshore Norway.

The well 16/4-9 S will be drilled from the COSLInnovator drilling rig in the central part of the North Sea, the petroleum regulator said on Friday.

Lundin hired the COSL Drilling-owned semi-sub for a one-well gig back in July 2017. After the rig contract starts in March this year, Lundin will have an option to extend it for eight more wells.

The drilling program for the well lined up by Lundin relates to the drilling of an appraisal well in production license 359, where Lundin is the operator with an ownership interest of 50 per cent. Other licensees are OMV (Norge) AS (20 per cent), Statoil (15 per cent) and Wintershall Norge (15 per cent).

According to the NPD, the area in this license consists of the southwestern part of block 16/1 and the northern half of block 16/4. The well will be drilled about two kilometers southeast of the discovery well 16/4-6 S (Luno II).

Production license 359 was awarded on January 6, 2006 (APA 2005). This is the fifth well to be drilled within the license area.
