Lundin to Use ‘Island Innovator’ for North Sea Wildcat

Lundin Norway AS has received the PSA Norway approval to use the Island Innovator drilling rig in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

The company will use the rig to drill and perform production testing of wildcat well 25/10-12 in production licence 625. Drilling is planned to begin in December, with a duration of approximately 45 days.

Island Innovator is a Global Maritime GM4000-WI design semi-submersible mobile drilling facility built in 2012 at Cosco (Zhoushan) Shipyard in China. The facility is owned by Maracc ASA and operated by Odfjell Drilling. Its flag state is Norway, and DNV is the classification society. In may this year, Island Innovator was involved in a tilting incident during a yard stay in Hanøytangen, Norway. Nobody was injured.

Lundin is the operator of the production licence with a 40% stake. Other partners in the block are Bayerngas Norge AS (20%), Maersk Oil Norway (20%) and Petoro AS (20%).
