Maersk Drilling has failed to find a new contract for the semi-submersible Maersk Developer and will now have to stack it, axing 80 jobs in the process.

Following completion of a six-year contract with the Norwegian oil giant Statoil, the Maersk Developer arrived to Port Fourchon, Lousiana, where it will be stacked and stay until a new contract has been found, the Copenhagen-based offshore driller informed.

The 2009-built, dynamically positioned rig worked for Statoil in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

Lars Kasueske, Unit Director on Maersk Developer, said: “It goes without saying that I am very saddened by the fact that we had to say goodbye to so many good colleagues. I thank everyone for all of the great work they have done on board the Developer and as part of the rig team in Houston, and I wish them all the best in the future.”

Built by Keppel FELS in Singapore, the Denmark-flagged rig attaches to an 8-point pre-installed mooring system which allows it to be moored at depths not greater than 500 meters and drill at depths of up to 12.000 meters.
