Wood Group nets Culzean field hook-up work. Creates 200 jobs

Maersk Oil has hired Wood Group to provide mechanical and management services for the hook-up and commissioning of the Culzean gas condensate field in the UK central North Sea.

At peak manning, Wood Group said on Monday, approximately 200 new jobs will be created by the project to support the new three platform, high pressure, high temperature (HPHT) development, which is expected to begin production in 2019.

The three-year contract, of an undisclosed value, is effective immediately.

Dave Stewart, CEO of Wood Group’s Asset Life Cycle Solutions business in the Eastern region said: “Maersk’s decision to award us this new contract to support them in this significant North Sea development reflects their confidence and assurance in our ability to deliver our broad technical solutions safely, efficiently and effectively.

“We will bring our strong, global experience and expertise in the execution of hooks-ups to the project, where our focus will be working in close collaboration with Maersk towards its successful delivery.”

The Culzean high-pressure/ high-temperature field will be developed using three bridge-linked platforms: a wellhead platform where drilling and production takes place; a central processing platform where the produced gas and condensate are processed and exported; and utilities and living quarters, providing accommodation, living space, and services for the crew.

Gas will be exported to the CATS pipeline, coming onshore at Teeside, with condensate exported via a short pipeline to an FSO vessel for offloading onto a tanker.

Offshore Energy Today last week reported that the jacket for the utility & living quarter (ULQ) platform for Culzean field had left a yard in the Netherlands and was on its way to the UK sector of the North Sea.

This is the third and final jacket for the High Pressure High Temperature Culzean development. It set sail on Friday, July 7, shortly after the central processing facilities (CPF) jacket, which started its journey towards the North Sea field location on June 28. Prior to that, the wellhead platform jacket arrived at the field and was installed in May 2016.
