MG3 expands fleet with ‘MV Ocean Spirit’

MV Ocean Spirit

UK-based geoscience solutions company MG3 has purchased the DP2 vessel MV Ocean Spirit along with the geotechnical site investigation equipment spread.

The company explained the move as a way to expand its services to the marine geoscience and ROV survey industry,

The vessel was formerly known as MV Highland Spirit and belonged to Calecore, UK-based geotechnical company that went into administration in 2015.

MV Ocean Spirit will enable MG3 to provide geophysical site surveys, environmental and geotechnical borehole site investigations together with ROV capabilities, the company explained.

The company said it was already implementing upgrades to the vessel and equipment spread, with works scheduled to be completed before the end of this month.

The vessel has an onboard geotechnical laboratory and a permanent fully heave compensated geotechnical rig and CPTU system and will also be equipped with multibeam and 2D high resolution seismic and geophysics survey spread, environmental equipment plus inspection/work class ROV.

MV Ocean Spirit will be able to provide a range of services to the offshore industry in the oil & gas, renewables, telecommunications and port authorities/dredging/infrastructure sectors, MG3 said.
