Minox gets to work on world’s largest FPSO

Total and Samsung Heavy Industries awarded the deoxygenation system contract for the world’s largest Floating Production Storage Offloading (FPSO) to Minox Technology.

The FPSO is to be operated by Total at the Egina oil field, in the Gulf of Guinea, offshore Nigeria. A Letter of Award (LOA) was signed on July 17th with an estimated contract value NOK 150 to 180 million ($24 – $29 million).

Minox Technology will by early 2016 deliver two compact deaeration (oxygen removal) units, each with a capacity to process 251,000 barrels of water per day down to 20 ppb of oxygen content – without the use of chemicals – making this a unique and green technology.

“This contract clearly demonstrates that Total and Samsung have great confidence in our compact and environmentally friendly water purification technology. Minox is unique in this respect, and our products have competitive advantages that prove positive, both from an environmental perspective as well as capex and opex savings for our clients. There is a lot of activity on water injection for deep-water projects in West Africa, so we will increase focus in this region,” says Minox’ CEO, Bjørn Einar Brath. “This engagement increases both our employment workload as well as our global growth plans.”

The Minox Deoxygenation System is a gas stripping process where an ultrapure nitrogen-gas is used to remove dissolved oxygen from water by a closed loop circulating nitrogen gas, in which the oxygen is being removed in a catalytic process. Its main application is the deoxygenation of seawater, which is injected for Increased Oil Recovery (IOR).

Minox is based at Notodden in Norway with additional offices in Oslo, Norway and in Houston, USA. Minox Technology AS is owned by HitecVision V L.P. through Agility Group.
