Norway: Apply Takes Slice of Edvard Grieg Platform Cake

Apply Leirvik has been awarded an Engineering, Procurement & Commissioning (EPC) contract from Kvaerner Stord for delivery of a Living Quarter and Helideck to the Lundin’s new Edvard Grieg Platform (formerly Luno).

The contract includes delivery of a new 7 floor Living Quarters Module with an area of 2600 m² and a capacity of 100 single cabins, administration centre, central control room and all other facilities required for operation of an offshore hotel.

The Living Quarters and Helideck will be constructed in aluminium. Low weight, minimum maintenance in operation and environmental friendliness were the most important criteria when Lundin made their decision to use aluminium.

Project Manager Øystein Kvalvik together with his Team will start planning and design engineering immediately. Fabrication of aluminium will start in early 2013. The module shall be delivered in July 2014. Hook up of the LQ module to the deck of the Edvard Gireg platform shall take place at Kværner Stord.

“We appreciate the confidence Kværner Stord demonstrates by this award,” Managing Director Lars Solberg states.

Kvaerner last week received a letter of intent from Lundin Norway AS for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the topside for the Edvard Grieg platform. The estimated contract value is approximately USD 1.4 billion, excluding options in the contract for offshore hook up and commissioning assistance. Most of the scope will be performed in Norway.

First production in 2015

The Edvard Grieg field is an oil field located in the North Sea. First production is expected in late 2015, with a forecast gross peak production of approximately 90 000 barrels of oil per day (bopd). The oil will be processed and transported in a new pipeline to the Grane area and further via the Grane oil pipeline to the Sture terminal for offloading.
