Petrofac, an international oil & gas services provider, has been awarded a four and a half-year contract extension for the provision of integrated support services on the Cygnus gas field in the Southern North Sea.

Petrofac said on Monday that the extension is until December 2021 and worth around $70 million.

The extension includes the provision of enhanced construction services and production supervision, as well as the existing pre-operations, operations, maintenance, engineering, and commissioning scope.

Petrofac began working on the pre-operational phase of Cygnus, seen as one of the largest gas field discoveries in the Southern North Sea for 30 years, in 2011. The company provided a range of services within the Integrated Services Contract including the supply of competent resources, operations and maintenance services, emergency responses, maintenance management systems, and training services.

Walter Thain, Managing Director, Petrofac Engineering and Production Services West, said: “We look forward to building on our involvement in this project as we work towards completion of the commissioning phases and into operations.”

The Cygnus field is located in the Southern North Sea, 150 kilometers off the coast of Lincolnshire. It has gross 2P reserves of approximately 18 billion cubic meters. The project is operated by Engie E&P UK (38.75%) with partners Centrica Energy (48.75%), and Bayerngas (12.5%).

The detailed development concept for the field consists of two drilling centers; the Cygnus Alpha and Cygnus Bravo and in total four platforms. The planned export route is through the ETS pipeline system to the Bacton gas terminal in North Norfolk.
