PGS completes 3D multiclient seismic survey off Indonesia

Norwegian marine seismic player PGS has completed a triple source multiclient 3D survey in North Madura offshore Indonesia.

PGS said on Tuesday that the survey was done using the PGS Apollo seismic vessel.

The company added that the vessel was available for other acquisition projects as support for the MIGAS plan for licensing new areas in the North Madura / East Java Basin and beyond.

The North Madura 3D is the first multiclient 3D that has been acquired in Indonesia for over six years.

The company applied several seismic acquisition methods during the survey including acquisition-based wavefield deghosting, which allows a raft of tailored imaging solutions using dual sensor GeoStreamer true broadband technology to be deployed.

PGS added that older seismic data over North Madura suffered from limited offsets and restricted depth, making it difficult to image newer and deeper plays.

This new 3D data is expected to provide improved porosity estimations at the Kujung (mid-Miocene) level, where there are still several untested leads. Also, new data will provide improved illumination under the carbonates to open up the deeper Ngimbang play, re-proven by the Sidayu well, as well as a potential basement play.

The company said that the North Madura 3D multiclient data would be available for viewing in the first quarter of 2018.
