Heerema Fabrication Group has shared a photo of the wellhead platform jacket it built for Maersk’s Culzean field in the North Sea as it was loaded onto a barge, ready for sail away.

The Netherlands-based fabricator of large and complex structures for the offshore oil and gas industry signed contracts with Maersk Oil to construct jackets for the central processing facilities platform and the utility & living quarter platform.

First steel for the Culzean WHP jacket, which is approximately 114 meters tall, was cut on January 16, 2015.

Back then, it was estimated that the construction would be completed by March 2016, which means that the jacket will be ready for drilling startup on the project in the second quarter of 2016.

The Maersk Oil-operated gas condensate field Culzean was discovered in 2008 and further appraised between 2009 and 2011 by Maersk Oil and its co-venturers.

Production is expected to start in 2019 and continue for at least 13 years. According to Maersk Oil, the total investment for the project is expected to be in excess of £3 billion.
