Six Greenpeace activists boarded the Polar Pioneer, a drilling rig destined to drill for Shell in the Chukchi sea, offshore Alaska, this Monday in order to protest against Arctic drilling. Shell reacted by filing a complaint to a federal court in Alaska asking for an order to remove the activists who climbed aboard the rig.
Last week, Shell also announced it is in talks to buy BG Group for a hefty sum of £47 billion; this move was described as an oil & gas deal of the decade. Offshore Energy Today followed up on that with a report from Wood Mackenzie, one of the biggest energy intelligence groups in the world, and their view of the deal.
In addition, Offshore Energy Today reported that BG Group’s CEO, Helge Lund, could leave BG with $47.8 million in his pocket due to a contract clause known as Golden Parachute. To remind, Lund has been at the helm of the company since February 2015, after coming from Statoil where he had been the CEO for a decade.
