PSA carries out audit of Hammerfest LNG (Norway)

From 24 to 26 June 2014, the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway carried out an audit at Statoil’s LNG plant at Melkøya, Hammerfest focusing on the disciplines of technical and operational safety.

The purpose of an audit of technical and operational safety is to investigate whether selected barriers and their performance requirements comply with requirements set out in regulations, standards and governing documents.

According to PSA, the audit was conducted as planned, was well organised and both presentations and interviews evinced a high level of openness.

The PSA identified three improvement points during the audit. These related to the replacement of pressure relief valves, the process for procuring pressure relief valves, and barrier strategy and performance requirements.

Hammerfest LNG, Europe’s first production facility for liquefied natural gas, is processing gas from the Snøhvit field. Snøhvit was the first petroleum development in the Barents Sea, Norway.
