PSW Group, a maintenance and service provider to the Norwegian subsea and drilling industry, has been awarded a contract with Transocean for storage and maintenance of blowout preventers (BOP) for Cat-D rigs.
PSW said on Tuesday that the scope of work consisted of storage and IMR services of BOP and related equipment for all Transocean Cat-D rigs. According to the company, the agreement has a duration of five years.
“BOP maintenance may have significant safety, financial, and logistical implications for rig owners. By securing continuous availability of class approved BOPs, both safety and operability will be increased, ultimately leading to less downtime and lower maintenance costs,” the company stated.
Due to the dimensions of a BOP, disassembly, maintenance, and reassembly require significant lifting capacity, as well as testing facilities and logistics.
PSW Group’s new facility at Mongstad is purpose-built and include a test pit, combined crane capacity of 240 tons, and stack-up height of 18.5 meters.
CEO of PSW Group, Oddbjørn Haukøy, said: “We are very pleased to be awarded this contract by Transocean, proving that our investment is a welcomed addition to the energy industry. I am confident that our new state-of-the-art facility, combined with our extensive experience and skilled personnel, will provide world-class services to this market.”
The new 10.000 square-meter facility is currently under construction and will be in operation in October 2019.
Transocean operates four Cat-D rigs which it added to its fleet through the acquisition of Songa Offshore in late January 2018. The four rigs in question are the Songa Equinox, Songa Endurance, Songa Encourage, and the Songa Enabler.
The four Cat-D harsh environment, semi-submersible drilling rigs are under long-term contracts with Equinor in Norway.
