Rolls-Royce to Provide Power and Propulsion for Four OSVs in China

Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company,  has won a £26 million order to provide an integrated design, power and propulsion and equipment package for four Rolls-Royce UT 771 CDL offshore supply vessels to be built at COSCO (Zhoushan) Shipyard Co. Ltd, in China for a Hong Kong owner. The contract includes options for four additional vessels.

In addition to ship design, Rolls-Royce will deliver an extensive integrated systems package including: a propulsion system, a power electrical system, a bulk handling system, deck machinery, an automation and control system, as well as a dynamic positioning system that uses satellite technology to automatically maintain the vessels’ position without anchoring.

This contract is the first time Rolls-Royce has incorporated high speed MTU-engines as part of an integrated power and propulsion package within the successful UT-vessel series.

Anders Almestad, Rolls-Royce, President – Offshore, said: “We are very pleased that COSCO have chosen to come back to us with a new customer. This shows that they have confidence in our integrated systems and ship design capabilities.

“The fact that we met customer needs with two separate, yet complementary offers from Rolls-Royce and MTU highlights the potential of our future collaboration.”

The four vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2014. At present COSCO group have four other UT-vessels under construction at the COSCO Guangdong ship yard. More than 170 ship owners world wide have UT-vessels in their fleet.
