Rough seas for ‘GSP Saturn’

GSP Saturn, a jack-up rig owned by Romania’s GSP Offshore, has reportedly sustained damage in a storm in the Pechora Sea last week.

Rough seas for 'GSP Saturn'

According to Portnews.ru, the rig had completed its work in the Pechora Sea and was on its way from the Pechora Sea to Murmansk when it was hit by the storm, losing a lifeboat and sustaining damage to the helideck.

In an e-mail response sent to Offshore Energy Today, Gabriel Comanescu, the CEO of the Romanian drilling contractor, said that the news article by the Portnews.ru was incorrect.

He did confirm that, “as always, there are minor damages that occur in stormy weather,” but added that those are not considered as serious and do not affect the integrity of the rig.

Comanescu said that the crew is on board the GSP Saturn, which is sailing safely towards Murmansk for warm stacking over the winter period. The CEO would not comment on the allegations that there was a lifeboat lost in the storm, and that the helideck was damaged.

The GSP Saturn is on a contract with Gazprom Neft. The rig is used for drilling at the the Dolginskoye field, in the Pechora Sea, offshore Russia.

Gazprom-Neft did not reply to an e-mail seeking comment, sent by Offshore Energy Today.
