Safe Scandinavia to Serve as Flotel at Eldfisk (Norway)

One of the largest foreign operators on the Norwegian continental shelf, ConocoPhillips, has been granted consent to use the accomodation rig Safe Scandinavia as a flotel at Eldfisk 2/7 E.

The consent, given by the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway, applies for the period from 1 May to 1 September 2012. Safe Scandinavia will be used as a flotel during the period while the current living quarters rig COSL Rigmar is at the shipyard for recertification.

The facility will be moored west of the 2/7-E facility with a gangway connection.

Cyprus-based Prosafe is the owner of Safe Scandinavia, which was built in 1984 at the Aker Verdal yard to an Aker H-3.2E design.  The rig has a twelve (12) point, all chain mooring system allowing station keeping in the harshest of environments.

With a maximum of 583 beds, two workshops and 60 workstations, together with very high levels of accommodation, good cranage and a high payload capacity, the Safe Scandinavia is the ideal offshore support vessel for construction, commissioning and remedial work.

In April 2007, Safe Scandinavia was the first floating accommodation unit ever to be awarded Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) by the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority.
