Sakhalin II Running Smoothly, Shell and Gazprom Say (Russia)

Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) hosted today a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee and Peter Voser, Chief Executive Officer of Royal Dutch Shell within the 25th World Gas Conference.

The parties discussed bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.

Alexey Miller and Peter Voser highlighted that the Sakhalin II project was progressing successfully as well as examined the issues of bilateral cooperation deepening.

Sakhalin-2 is one of the world’s biggest integrated oil and gas projects. It was built from scratch in the harsh subarctic environment of Sakhalin Island in the Russian Far East. Phase 1 involved first oil production from an offshore platform Molkpaq installed at the Piltun-Astokhskoye field in 1999. Phase 2 included the installation of two further platforms, 300 km of offshore pipelines connecting all three platforms to shore, more than 800 km of onshore oil and gas pipelines, an onshore processing facility, an oil export terminal and the construction of Russia’s first liquefied natural gas plant.
