Semco Maritime has awarded oil and gas manpower and mobility provider MDE Group a contract to support the delivery of manpower, logistics, and coordination of work on the Culzean project in the North Sea.
To remind, Maersk Oil selected Semco Maritime last year to participate in the preparation of its new Culzean gas field in the UK sector of the North Sea when the production units arrive from Singapore in the summer of this year.
Semco Maritime will be responsible for carrying out the electrical work, while the piping and painting work will be carried out by two other companies.
MDE Group said that it would be looking to build a core crew of electricians, technicians, and engineers to support Semco Maritime in delivering their services to the Culzean project.
The Culzean complex, located 240 kilometers east of the coast of Aberdeen, will consist of a central processing platform, a wellhead platform, a living quarter platform, which are currently under construction at the Sembcorp Marine yard in Singapore.
The company added that it has been supporting Semco Maritime with the setup of a team of hook-up specialists to prepare the installation work in Singapore and will be putting together a UK based team to have everything planned when the platforms arrive in the North Sea.
Jim Cooper, director of Semco Maritime, said: “After our cooperation with MDE Group during the preparatory phase in Singapore, we feel very confident that they will be able to set the right team for us in the UK.”
Tom Nixon, managing director of MDE Consultants, added: “We are delighted with this major contract award from Semco Maritime. It marks a huge step forward for our business in both being a seen a recognized global manpower and mobility partner but also as a proven local provider to the UK offshore sector.”
MDE added that the offshore work would be carried out from Aberdeen, where the two companies expect to contract over 150 workers for the hook-up.
