Semco Maritime supports growth with two new senior positions

International contracting and engineering company Semco Maritime has created two new senior positions at its Aberdeen facility to support its continued growth.

Lorna Petrie has taken up the role of finance manager and Jim Cooper has been appointed general manager, products and technology, wind, oil and gas. The newly created roles strengthen the firm’s senior management team and coincide with the second anniversary of Semco Maritime establishing a presence in Aberdeen.

Semco Maritime handles major rig and oil and gas projects in the UK as a turnkey contractor, providing a range of services including the design, fabrication, service and maintenance of assets. The Aberdeen facility specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of cost-effective, technology-driven EICA solutions.

Petrie, who has worked in finance for 30 years, is responsible for the financial operations of all of Semco Maritime’s UK facilities, which in addition to Aberdeen include Invergordon, Great Yarmouth and Norfolk. She will also be responsible for implementing group-wide accountancy policies and procedures in Aberdeen along with new software, which will be fully integrated with the system used at Semco Maritime’s Danish headquarters.

“I am pleased to be joining Semco Maritime at such an exciting time in the company’s development,” said Lorna Petrie. “This newly created role promises to be both interesting and diverse. I am looking forward to the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.”

Jim Cooper’s appointment as general manager, products and technology, wind, oil and gas reflects the importance of these two key business divisions to Semco Maritime’s activities in the UK. A qualified and highly experienced engineer, Cooper joins the company from Scottish Water where he held the role of team manager.

“I believe that Semco Maritime’s operations in Aberdeen have strong potential for growth as the company continues to capitalise on being part of a global organisation,” Jim Cooper says. “My focus is to bring the capabilities of our products and technology and wind, oil and gas divisions to the attention of the marketplace here, as well as supporting the management team with business strategy and planning.”

Derek Cook, managing director of Semco Maritime in Aberdeen, said: “The business has undergone a major transition over the past two years and this has helped to increase our portfolio of turnkey engineering solutions. These developments have undoubtedly benefited our clients here in the north-east.

“Lorna and Jim join Semco Maritime as we develop our service offering further with the recent opening of our rig refurbishment base at Invergordon. Both bring a wealth of knowledge and experience, and their appointments strengthen our management team at this important time in the company’s development.”
