Shell extends contract for Helix well intervention semi-sub

Helix Energy Solutions Group has entered into a new multi-year contract with Shell to provide well intervention services in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico utilizing Helix’s Q4000.

The Q4000 is a deepwater well intervention semi-submersible which has been performing work for Shell since 2011 under a Master Service Agreement. According to Helix, the contract is for a three-year duration, starting 2015 through the end of 2017.

“Shell has remained a customer for Helix over a number of years, and we appreciate their confidence in our Company’s well intervention services. Given the current state of the oil and gas markets, we view this contract as a step forward in further executing our business strategy,” said Helix President and Chief Executive Officer, Owen Kratz.

The Q4000 is a DP3 semi-submersible MODU converted designed for well intervention in water depths to 10,000 ft.

This multipurpose vessel provides a platform for a wide variety of tasks, including subsea well intervention, field and well decommissioning, installation and recovery of subsea equipment, well testing and emergency well containment.
