South Stream Transport contracted Siemens AG to provide electrical and instrumentation systems for the South Stream Offshore Pipeline.
The German company will deliver telecommunication equipment and local control systems for the Russian and Bulgarian landfall as well as the Central Control Room and the Backup Control Room.
The South Stream Offshore Pipeline will consist of four parallel pipelines through the Black Sea, each with a length of 931 kilometres. During operations, more than 40 million cubic metres of gas can be transported through each pipeline per day. All gas flows will be monitored around the clock from the Central Control Room.
South Stream Transport signed a contract for the construction of the first offshore pipeline in March 2014. Contracts for the supply of approximately 150,000 pipes for the first two lines are also in place. Operations of the first pipeline are to start by the end of 2015. When all four pipelines are completed by the end of 2017, the Project can transport up to 63 billion cubic metres of natural gas to Europe per year.
