Small fire reported on Tartan A platform

The ‘Tartan A’ offshore oil platform in the UK North Sea caught fire on Saturday morning. All workers accounted for.

 

In an e-mail sent to Offshore Energy Today, Talisman Sinopec Energy UK Limited confirmed that the incident on board the Tartan ‘A’ platform was reported at 10am on Saturday, August 9.

The operator said that a “small fire was detected in one of the emergency generator enclosures which was promptly extinguished and the situation brought under control.”

Talisman said that the Tartan A platform was shut-down for ongoing maintenance at the time of the incident.

“There were 122 personnel on board the platform at the time of the incident who were called to muster and all accounted for, ” Talisman said.

The maintenance works on the platform resumed on Sunday.

Tartan ‘A’ is a drilling/production platform located in block 15/16 of the British sector of the North Sea. The platform stands in 140 m (465 ft) of water approximately 187 km (117 miles) northeast of Aberdeen. The platform comprises a conventional four-legged steel jacket secured to the seabed and carrying a module support frame upon which rest modules containing production, drilling and accommodation facilities with an estimated operational weight of 28,500 tonnes.

Tartan ‘A’ was installed in 1979 with first production in January 1981.
