Statoil terminates Ocean Vanguard rig contract

Norwegian oil company Statoil has terminated a rig contract with a U.S.-based offshore drilling contractor.

According to Reuters, Statoil decided to end the contract for the Ocean Vanguard semi-submersible drilling rig, earlier that the original contract specified.

Statoil spokesperson told Reuters that the contract had been terminated “due to technical aspects of the rig.”

The rig is owned by Diamond Offshore, a drilling contractor based in Houston, USA.

The contract, at a dayrate of $454.000, was originally planned to last until late February 2015.

The Ocean Vanguard is registered in the Marshall Islands with Det Norske Veritas as the classification society. Ocean Vanguard was built in 1982 and received Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) from the Petroleum Safety Authority in Norway in July 2004.
